چکیده

Thyroxine is bound to a serum protein which appears in the electrophoretogram just ahead of alpha-2 globulin (1-4). Triiodothyronine also associates with this thyroxine binding globulin (T.B.G.) but can be displaced readily with thyroxine -while triiodothyronine will not readily displace thyroxine. Deiss, Albright, and Larson (5) suggested that the firm binding of thyroxine to T.B.G. might account for the slower rate of disappearance of thyroxine from the plasma as compared to triiodothyronine. The purpose of this paper is to report studies on the in vitro uptake or binding by human red cells of radioactive I-131 labeled sodium iodide, human serum albumin; triiodothyronine, and thyroxine. We propose to show that the binding of L-thyroxine by plasma is one of the limiting factors in the uptake or binding of this substance by the human red cell. The uptake or binding of L-triiodothyronine is limited to a lesser degree by plasma binding and is consistently greater than the uptake or binding of L-thyroxine.

Bone imaging demonstration of osseous lesions and hepatic uptake: Amyloid and renal dialysis effect

A 64-year-old woman, with amyloid related kidney failure (On renal dialysis) had a bone scan because of pain in the right upper femur. The 99m Tc-MDP images revealed marked hepatic uptake. In addition, there was right proximal femoral concentration of radiotracer, which corresponded to a fracture site. As an added finding, the same femor demonstrated circumferential uptake at the lower po...

Evaluation of Effect of Plasmas Prepared from Packed Red Blood Cells at Different Weeks on Production of Nitric Oxide (NO) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) from Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells in Vitro

Introduction: In present study, we evaluated the effect of plasma collected from packed red blood cells (PRBCs) at various weeks after donation on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Methods: In this experimental study, plasma prepared from twenty PRBCs in the first, second, fourth, and fifth weeks after donation. PBMCs were also isolated from healthy donors and treated with different c...

The effect of sugar cane molasses on the immune and male reproductive systems using in vitro and in vivo methods

Objective(s): Sugar cane molasses is a commonly used ingredient in several food products. Contrasting reports suggest that molasses may have potential adverse or beneficial effects on human health. However, little evidence exists that examines the effects of molasses on the different physiological systems. This study investigated the effects of sugar cane molasses on various physiological syste...

The Study of Collagen Immobilization on a Novel Nanocomposite to Enhance Cell Adhesion and Growth

Background: Surface properties of a biomaterial could be critical in determining biomaterial’s biocompatibility due to the fact that the first interactions between the biological environment and artificial materials are most likely occurred at material’s surface. In this study, the surface properties of a new nanocomposite (NC) polymeric material were modified by combining plasma treatment and...

Synergistic cellular toxicity and uptake effects of iodixanol conjugated to anionic linear globular dendrimer G2

Objective(s): Early diagnosis of cancer using noninvasive imaging techniques has been discussed in several recent studies. The present study aimed to assess the synergistic effects of iodixanol-conjugated polyethylene glycol (PEG)-citrate (anionic linear globular) dendrimer G2 on MCF-7 breast cancer cells and human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells. Materials and Methods: PEG-citrate de...

The influence of iron chelate and zinc sulfate on the growth and nutrient composition of chickpea grown on a calcareous soil

ABSTRACT- The effects of iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) treatments on the growth and nutrient composition of chickpea were studied in a greenhouse experiment arranged in a completely randomized design. While the application of Fe decreased mean shoot dry weight of chickpea, that of Zn had no significant effect on chickpea shoot dry weight. Increasing Fe levels drastically decreased Mn concentration an...
